Nicholson Fire and Rescue Department is committed to serving the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention and response.

Nicholson Fire Department was founded in December 1972 after the town had to watch Benton School burn to the ground on February 28, 1972 with no way to stop it.  A Resolution was passed to create the Nicholson Fire District on November 15,1984.  Our District encompasses 44.64 square miles and approximately 5500 citizens.    We currently have an ISO rating of 3. Station #1 is our main station located at 5462 US Hwy 441 and we share our quarters with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services Med 4. Station #1 is home to Engine 21, Engine 23, Engine 25, Tanker 21, Squad 21 and Brush/Service 20.  Station #2 is located at 9371 Commerce Road and Engine 24 and Tanker 20.

We are a combination department with 34 active Volunteer and Part-time paid Firefighters and Rescue Personnel.  We are on call 24 hours a day, responding to fire calls, medical emergencies and automobile accidents.  We have two staff members on duty Monday-Friday 9-5 then after hours and on weekends we revert over to on-call volunteer status.  We hold weekly training Thursday evenings at Station #1 at 7:30 pm.

Our Firemen service and maintain fire hydrants, test hose and station equipment and perform pre-fire plans on local businesses. Our Personnel enjoy Public Education events at the local schools and Day Care Centers such as Fire Safety Programs, Halloween Safety, Career Day Presentations and Summer Reading events.
